The Lung Association, Alberta & NWT has recently launched a radon awareness campaign to educate homeowners about what radon is and the importance of testing for high radon levels. Radon is a colourless, odourless gas that is found naturally in the air we breathe, as well as in soil and rock, which typically surrounds the foundation of a home. It is the leading cause of lung cancer among non-smokers and the second-leading cause of lung cancer after smoking. Every home is different, therefore all homes should be tested to find out if there are high radon levels indoors.
